| Solution: Start with the ♠J, both East and West
must follow with a spade and declarer discards a low club from North. Next the ♥2 is played. If
West decides to play the ♥9 then Declarer must make the highly counter-intuitive
play of discarding the ♦J from North! From
there, West can win a second trick with the ♦8 but will be forced to lose the final two tricks by
having to lead from the ♥5 3 into Declarer's ♥6 4. West must
therefore play low. Declarer now
discards another low club from North and East is forced to win this trick
with the ♥8. With East now on
lead he can win the ♣A but will be forced to surrender a club trick to
North and once that happens Declarer is able to win a third trick with the ♦J. |
