| Solution: Start by leading the ♦6. On this trick the defense has two options;
they either allow West's ♦Q to hold the trick or East overtakes West's ♦Q with the ♦A. If West takes the trick then they cannot
lead a club because they will be leading into North's tenace giving Declarer
two club tricks (Declarer then just plays a heart and takes the ♥A and the ♠A
for their third and fourth tricks).
West does no better leading a diamond.
All Declarer has to do is win the trick in hand as cheaply as possible
(if East plays the ♥Q win the ♥A, if East plays the ♥7 win the ♥9 - Declarer must not allow Dummy's ♥8 win the
trick). Neither of these options work
for the defense so East must try winning their ♦A. This however
will not work either as Dummy's ♦J guards diamonds and all other options equate to the same
as if West were to win the trick. |
