| Solution: Start by
leading the 6 of hearts, giving the defense a heart trick that they were not
entitled to. This may seem like a
strange thing to do but in fact the defense is going to return the favour
two-fold! When West wins the first
trick they are forced to return either a diamond or a spade. Either way North wins the return with the
ace and then plays the other ace. The
only important thing for declarer to do is discard the ace of hearts from the
south hand on one of these two tricks.
North's remaining hearts are good and since the ace of hearts was
discarded there is no blockage to be concerned about. |
